2007 All-CIAA football team named
East Division champion Virginia Union
landed six players on the first team including its quarterback, league offensive player of the year
Lamar Little, as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association unveiled its 2007 all-conference football team this week (See list below).
Little, a junior, led the CIAA in passing yards (177.3 ypg.), total offense (224 ypg.), TD passes (20) and passing efficiency (145.7) in guiding the 9-1 Panthers to the division crown and a spot in this weekend's league championship game. He is joined on the first team by teammates Elihu Smith, the league's top rusher with 909 yards or 101.0 per game, sophomore linebacker Brandon Smith, who leads the CIAA with ten sacks and freshman defensive back Andre LeBlanc III, who is tied for the league lead with four interceptions. LeBlanc, who also led the league in passes defended, was named the league's defensive rookie of the year.
West division champ Shaw got just two players on the first team
with defensive lineman Louis Ellis taking the defensive player of the year
award. Ellis posted eight sacks and finished third in all of NCAA Div. II football
with 22 tackles for losses. He had 57 total tackles, 40 of them solos. Sophomore
punt returner Robert Brown, who topped the league with 21.9 yards per
return, was the Bears' other first team selection.
Johnson C. Smith defensive back De'Audra Dix not only was selected as a first team defender but was also named the special teams player of the year by virtue of his league-leading 31.3 yards per kickoff return average. JCSU freshman wide receiver Jeremy Franklin was named the offensive rookie of the year. Franklin topped the CIAA with 37 receptions averaging 17.8 yards per catch.
