HOW THEY DID IT - Game Recaps_ BCSP No. 1 Hampton 58, NC A&T 14 Three-time defending MEAC champion and BCSP No. 1 Hampton (2-0, 2-0 MEAC) got three TD passes (9, 22, 29) from QB T. J. Mitchell (12-22-2, 210 yards), two rushing touchdowns (7, 2) from Van Morgan (24 car., 154 yds.) and two scores from Kevin Teel, a 70-yard kickoff return and a 29-yard scoring reception, in routing N. C. A&T (0-3, 0-1 MEAC). Hampton WR Jeremy Gilchrist had four receptions for 112 yards including a 29-yard TD catch. _ No. 2 Alabama A&M 45, Miss. Valley State 14
_ Kent State 38, No. 3 Delaware State 7 Delaware State (2-1, 1-0 MEAC) trailed only 7-0 at the half but gave up 24 straight points in the second half in falling to Kent State (2-1). The Hornets were held to 191 total yards on offense. _ South Carolina 38, No. 4 S. C. State 3 South Carolina State (1-2, 1-0 MEAC) jumped ahead on a field goal following an early interception but could not get on the board afterward in falling to BCS South Carolina (3-0). RB Will Ford was a bright spot for the Bulldogs rushing for 117 yards on 17 carries. _ No. 5 Southern 12, Prairie View A&M 2 In a defensive struggle between previously unbeaten teams, Prairie View (2-1, 1-1 SWAC W) played Southern (2-0, 3-0 SWAC W) to a near statistical draw but gave up a short touchdown pass in the second and another off a fake field goal in the fourth quarters in falling in Baton Rouge. Prairie View had three incursions deep into Southern territory but were turned away twice on fourth downs and once on an interception. Southern cashed in less than a minute before the half on a 15-yard pass from QB Bryant Lee to Gerard Landry capping an 8-play, 56-yard drive. They also scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a holder Nick Benjamin's 12-yard pass to Evan Alexander. The score completed a 7-play, 59-yard drive. Prairie View got its only points when Southern was called for offensive holding while punting from the end zone early in the fourth quarter. Each team had 14 first downs with Southern outgaining PV 223-197. _ No. 7 Tuskegee 44, Benedict 8
_ No. 8 Virginia Union 45, Livingstone 7 QB Lamar Little ran nine times for 146 yards including a 46-yard TD scamper and passed for three TDs (11, 15, 90) as the Panthers (3-0, 1-0 CIAA E) manhandled Livingstone (0-3, 0-1). WR Phillip Taylor had scoring receptions of 11 and 90 yards and finished with 117 yards on four catches. VUU's defense held Livingstone to 128 total yards. _ No. 9 Alabama State 12, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 10 Upstart Alabama State (3-0, 2-0 SWAC E), under first-year coach Reggie Barlow, staged an 11-play, 49-yard drive and scored on a 10-yard pass from QB Chris Mitchell to Fred Ragsdale with 41 seconds left to earn an upset road win against defending SWAC West Division champ Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-2, 1-2 SWAC W). UAPB QB Jonathan Moore ran 27 yards to the ASU 35 on the first play from scrimmage following the score but fumbled the ball over to ASU. ASU scored first, just before the half on Mitchell's 11-yard pass to Darius Mathis. UAPB got on the boards with a 26-yard John Heflin field goal early in the fourth quarter and mid-way thru the quarter on Moore's seven-yard scoring run. Mitchell finished 16 of 27 for 175 yards and 2 scores. ASU RB Jay Peck ran 35 times for 129 yards. _ No. 10 Albany State 24, Stillman 17 Albany State (3-1, 2-0) ran the ball 55 times for 290 yards and scored three second quarter rushing touchdowns (18, 12, 51) and passed only seven times (3 completions) in downing Stillman (3-1, 0-1 SIAC). Stillman QB Charles McCullum struggled completing just 15 of 37 passes for 171 yards. Brandon Long's three-yard run pulled Stillman within 21-17 in the fourth quarter.
