JSU Lady Tigers win SWAC golf, again
The Lady Tigers of Jackson State defended their title capturing the 2007 SWAC women's Golf Tournament earlier this week

The Lady Tigers won the event by more than 40 strokes over second-place Texas SouthernAlcorn State finished third while Prairie View A&M and Alabama State round out the top five.

JSU sophomore Shasta Averyhardt repeated as the top individual scorer with a rounds of 81-71_152.  Tied for second with a mark of 156 were Texas Southern's Georgette Rolle and JSU's Merielle LeBlanc.  First-day leader Ida Lamela of Alcorn State was fourth with a score of 157 while Jackson State's Nikeya Peay was fifth with a 159.

Ky. State loses women's hoops coach
Michelle Clark-Heard, who in two seasons restored the Kentucky State women's basketball program to prominence, has resigned as head women's basketball coach, to accept an assistant coaching position at the University of Louisville. Coach Heard, who inherited a 1-26 team, guided the Thorobrettes to a 5-22 (4-15, SIAC) record in her first season and then led the Thorobrettes to a remarkable 19-8 (14-6, SIAC) finish in 2006-2007.

Coach Heard came to Kentucky State in June 2005 from Cincinnati, where she was an assistant coach for three seasons.

PGA Minority Golf field largest ever
The 21st PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship is set to feature the largest field in the history of the National Championship, which will take place for the 10th consecutive year at The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., May 11-13, 2007. A record 38 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate, including nine schools that will compete for the first time.

The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men's Division I and II, and NAIA Men's and Women's. In addition, there is an individual invitational competition for minority Men and Women contestants. The Individual Invitational is open to students who are African-American, Hispanic-America, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island American.

The PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship will be contested on the Ryder and Wanamaker Courses at The PGA Golf Club and feature more than 180 athletes, an increase that is over and above 50 competitors from last year's event.
