What's Going On In and Around Black College Sports
MEET ME IN HAWAII: Florida
A&M head football coach Rubin
Carter and North Carolina A&T head coach
Lee Fobbs will be on opposite sidelines
again when they coach as assistants in the Hula Bowl All-Star Game
on January 14, 2007 at Aloha Stadium. Carter, in his second
season at FAMU, will work with the West All-Stars, most likely
tutoring the defensive line. Fobbs, in his first season at A&T, will be
an assistant for the East. It will be a return to familiar ground
for Carter, who earned MVP honors at the Hula Bowl in 1975 as a defensive lineman,
following a stellar collegiate career at the University of Miami.
Carter went on to a fruitful career in the National Football
League as a premiere nose tackle for the Denver Broncos from
1975 to 1987. Fobbs had an outstanding career as a running
back at Grambling State under legendary coach
Eddie Robinson before a short professional career. Carter's FAMU team
(5-5) knocked off Fobbs' A&T (0-10) squad 45-12 on Nov.
4 of this year.
