_ N.C. Central 20, Albany State 0
Defending CIAA champ NC Central (1-0, 0-0 CIAA) handed defending SIAC champ Albany State (0-1, 0-0 SIAC) its first HBCU defeat since 2003 and its first shutout since the opening game of the 2002 season in the first CIAA/SIAC Challenge in Durham. The Eagles had 334 total yards, 206 passing and 128 rushing, while holding the Golden Rams to 148 yards, 81 passing and 67 rushing yards in 37 attempts. NCCU plackekicker Brandon Gilbert converted two field goals (24, 33) while Greg Pruitt, Jr., ran for 87 yards including a 14-yard TD scamper. WR Julius McClellan had three receptions for 77 yards including a 45-yard first-quarter scoring catch. Charles Futrell led the receivers with six catches for 105 yards. Redshirt freshman QB Stradford Brown was 13 of 21 for 206 yards.

_ Fort Valley State 9, Clark Atlanta 8
Jake Grubbs' kicked the last of his three field goals, this one from 22 yards out, with 9:34 left in the fourth quarter to provide the margin of victory for Fort Valley State (1-0, 1-0 SIAC) and new coach Deondri Clark over Clark Atlanta (0-1, 0-1 SIAC). Grubbs connected from 28 yards out in the first quarter and added a 39-yarder late in the third period. The kicks offset CAU's lone score which came on a 14-yard pass midway through the second period to Michael Wooten from QB Dazzmon Johnson. Curtis Johnson ran in a two-point conversion.The Panthers were held to 66 yards of total offense while the Wildcats amassed 252 yards, 190 of those on the ground. FVSU lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions.

_ Johnson C. Smith 19, Edward Waters 14
Johnson C. Smith (1-0, 0-0 CIAA W) broke a 24-game losing streak and gave second-year coach Daryl McNeil his first victory since returning to the Golden Bull sidelines last year by knocking off Edward Waters (0-1) at the HBCU Classic in Greenville, S.C. JCSU jumped out to a 19-0 first half lead and then held on as the Tigers fought back. JCSU tailback Kevin Allen ran in from two yards out with 9:14 left in the opening period. QB Carl Richardson added a 67-yard TD run with 3:34 left in the quarter and back-up QB Donja Goodson hit Marquis Belton (6 rec., 159 yards, 1 TD) with a 56-yard TD pass with 10:30 left in the second. EWC answered just before the half with a 17-yard scoring pass from Kemali Leitner to Victor Owens and then scored on its first second-half possession on a Leitner two-yard run. JCSU fumbled the ensuing kickoff and EWC recovered at the JCSU 8 but had a 37-yard field goal blocked four plays later. The Tigers came away empty on two fourth quarter penetrations into JCSU territory.

_ Morehouse 25, Benedict 24
Morehouse (1-0, 1-0 SIAC) scored early in the fourth quarter and then halted a late Benedict (0-1, 0-1 SIAC) drive to preserve the Maroon Tigers' one-point win in Columbia, SC. Morehouse QB Carlos King (7-13-0-106) capped a five-play, 51-yard drive with a 26-yard TD pass to Steadman James with 11:13 to play. Benedict came back to mount a eight-play, 74-yard drive to get the ball to the Morehouse 10 but Scorpio Brown intercepted BC QB Antonio Gaffney's aerial at the MHC 8 with 5:07 to play. Morehouse then ran out the clock. RB Elliot Rowe was the offensive star for Morehouse running 27 times for 178 yards and two TDs (6, 54). Morehouse scored four TDs but converted only one PAT. _ Tuskegee 24, Stillman 6
The Willie Slater era at Tuskegee (1-0, 1-0 SIAC) got off on the right foot as the Golden Tigers downed SIAC foe Stillman (0-1, 0-1 SIAC).Stillman took the opening kickoff and marched 72 yards in 11 plays to score its only touchdown. Tuskegee got on the board in the first quarter on a 30-yard Roosevelt Echeverry field goal and added a second quarter Brian King fumble return for a TD and QB Kevin Huff's 35-yard scoring pass to Lorenzo Crawford.
