Miles College has named University of Alabama at Birmingham assistant Christopher Giles as the Golden Bears new head basketball coach. Giles replaces Roosevelt Sanders who was released as the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.

Giles spent the last four years as an assistant coach at UAB, helping to guide the Blazer teams to an overall record of 89-41, which included a Conference USA regular-season championship in 2004, three straight postseason appearances, and back-to-back appearances in NCAA Tournaments

Giles entered coaching as a graduate assistant at UAB during the 1983-84 season. He was with the Blazers for three seasons in that capacity. Giles got his first full-time assistant coaching job at Jackson State University. He remained on the staff at JSU when Andy Stoglin took over the program in 1989. In 1993-94, Giles was promoted to associate head coach at JSU.

A native of Birmingham, Giles graduated from Parker High School in 1977. With the Blazers during the 1980-81 season, Giles was co-captain of the team that went 23-9 and made an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. He finished the season averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per contest, garnering Second-Team All-Conference Honors. As a senior, he led the Blazers to a 25-6 season, a Sun Belt Championship and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.

Giles was a fifth round draft pick by the New Jersey Nets and played for the Wisconsin Flyers of the CBA in the 1982-83 season.

Giles earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his master's in physical education from Jackson State University.
