St. Aug's, NCCU take CIAA Cross Country titles
St. Augustine's reclaimed the men's championship and N.C. Central's women surprised the field and ran away with their first CIAA Cross Country Championship last weekend in Cary, N.C.. Last year it was N.C. Central winning the men and St. Augustine's won the women.

In the men's 8K race, the Falcons had three runners to finish in the top 10 leading them to the team title with 52 points, 10 points better than second place Shaw who had two runners in the top 10 and 62 points. Darius Shade of Livingstone won the men's individual title with a time of 24:54.20, pacing the Blue Bears to a third place finish with 84 points.

The NCCU Lady Eagles had three runners to finish in the top 10 led by two time defending champion Yolanda Barber who finished the 5K course with a time of 19:10.9. Barber's win gave NCCU its seventh individual title in the past eight years.

The Lady Eagles won with 32 points and the Lady Falcons who also had three runners finish in the top 10 were second with 63 points. Bowie State finished third with 105 points.

Morehouse, Albany State take SIAC Cross Country crowns

led a 1-2-3 Morehouse sweep of the top positions and Maroon Tiger runners also (Lawrence Hanks and Avery Himes) finished fifth and sixth as they swept to the men's title at the SIAC Cross Country championships in Atlanta. Fort Valley State and Albany State finished behind Morehouse on the men's side.

Llonisha Lee of Albany State finished first and teammate Asia Hollingsworth was second as the Lady Golden Rams took home the women's title. Two other Albany State ladies, Teosha Johnson and Tamika Kinchen finished sixth and seventh. Clark Atlanta finished second with Benedict third.

SWAC Fall Championships on tap
The SWAC Cross-Country Championships will be held Monday, Oct. 31 at Prairie View A&M, the SWAC Soccer Tournament will be Nov. 3-6 at Robinson Stadium on the campus of Grambling and the SWAC Volleyball Tournament is set for November 11-12 on the campus of Texas Southern. The 7th SWAC Championship Football Game will take place December 10 at Birmingham's Legion Field.
