BCSP Notes . . .National Top Ten-ersA host of black college NCAA Div. II hoopsters are among national leaders in statistical categories while a smaller number of their Div. I counterparts are making the grade. Six-foot senior center Rachill Robinson of Bowie State in rebounds at 11.4 per game. Five-six junior point guard Natassia Boubicault of Shaw is now only tied for tenth in assists at 6.4 per game but also shows up tenth in steals at 3.4 per game. Six-two junior center Tiffany Tonkins of Winston-Salem State is fifth in blocked shots at 3.8 per game while Tuskegee 6-3 senior center Thalasha Thues is tenth at 3.6 per game. All-CIAA senior guard Allyson Hardy of Bowie State is ninth in scoring at 21.8 points per game. Black college women are all over the steals list with Fort Valley State senior guard Sherika Tarpkins fourth (4.4 spg.) and Shaw guard Jessica Hawkins fifth (4.3 spg.). Virginia State freshman Ravin Yancey is seventh at 4.1 while Shaw's Boucicault is tenth. On the men's side, senior guard Nat Moles of W. Va. State is second in 3-FG% at 51.9%. JC Smith senior guard Benjamin Chasten is sixth at 49.5%. Senior point guard Luqman Jaaber of Virginia Union is currently second in the nation hitting 91.7% from the free throw line (55 of 60). Teammate Darius Hargrove is eighth at 89.2% (66 of 74). Bowie State senior center Lee Cook's 12.3 rebounds per game is good for third in the nation. Albany State football QB turned point guard Uyl Joyner checks in at tenth in assists at 6.5 per game. Virginia State center Avis Wyatt (3.5), Tuskegee 6-11 senior Kenyon Gamble (3.5) and Clark Atlanta seven-footer Kobby Acquah (3.4) hold down the four thru six spots in blocked shots. VUU's Jaaber also shows up n the steals category, averaging 3.6 per game, second best in the nation. Jayson Williams of Lane (3.4, T4th), Frank Pinson of Albany State (3.1, T 6th) and St. Aug junior Norman Morrow (2.9, 9th) made the top ten. Amongst the Div. I women, 6-11 senior center Evan Morrisey of S.C. State is fifth nationally in rebounds while Lacey Cormier of Grambling, a 6-2 sophomore center is eighth, she's a 6-2 soph center. Cormier is also tied for tenth in blocked shots at 3.2 per game. Among the men, Hampton's 6-11 junior center Bruce Brown is starting to throw his height around in the MEAC shooting a blistering 66.4% from the field, second best in the nation. Senior Chakowby Hicks of Norfolk State is the only black college player leading a Div. I category.
