1. ALBANY STATE (11-1) - After undefeated regular
season (10-0), SIAC champs get to #2 in the nation and
had eventual DIv. II champs on wire in playoff quarterfinals.
2. HAMPTON (10-2) - MEAC co-champs battled I-AA eventual semifinalists in first round of playoffs.
3. SHAW (9-2) - CIAA champ also won PIoneer Bowl over Tuskegee.
4. TUSKEGEE (10-2) - SIAC runner-up had big Turkey Day win over SWAC champ.
5. ALABAMA STATE (10-2) - SWAC E. Div. champs finally subdue Southern for SWAC title.
6. SOUTHERN (8-4) - W. Div. champ lost to Alabama State in SWAC Championship Game.
7. SOUTH CAROLINA STATE (9-2) - Tied for MEAC title at 6-1 but lost tie-breaker to Hampton.
8. BETHUNE-COOKMAN (6-4) - Tied for third in MEAC.
9. ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF (6-3) - SWAC West Div., runner-up.
10. FAYETTEVILLE STATE (8-4) - CIAA W. Div. champ and title runner-up gets to D-2 playoffs.
