Hicks |
|
MAURICE HICKS, 5-10, 200, RB, San Francisco
(2nd year, NC A&T) - In the first NFL action of his young career,
Hicks rushed for 46 yards on eight carries, including a long run of 35
yards, had 12 yards on one reception, returned five kickoffs for a 20.6
yard average and registered two special teams tackles in loss to Carolina. "What
happened in that game is that number one, when he (starting RB Kevin
Barlow) came out of that game, Maurice (Hicks) was playing pretty well
and obviously he (Hicks) did because when he went in, he made a huge
run and he kind of had things going at that time, so we left him in the
football game," 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson said. |

Mathis |
|
DEFENSE
ROBERT MATHIS, DE, Indianapolis (2nd year, ALABAMA A&M) - Mathis
had a monster game, leading the much-maligned Colts defense with five
tackles, three of them sacks of QB David Carr, all that cuased fumbles
in win over Houston. Mathis now has 8 sacks, third best in the NFL, and
has caused five fumbles on the year. "We responded to the negativity," Mathis
said. "We knew what we could do as a team, and we're doing it." "We
kind of knew going in Robert had a chance to have a big day and Robert
took advantage of it," said Indy coach Tony Dungy.
