Defending SWAC E. Div. champ and BCSP #1
Alabama State's (3-0, 2-0 SWAC E) anticipated showdown with division
co-favorite Alcorn State (2-2, 1-1 SWAC E) was a mismatch.

219 yards and four TDs, RB Keldrick Williams

Hampton (4-0, 2-0 MEAC) scored on a 76-yard pass on its
first play from scrimmage and went on to outscore
Morgan State (1-3, 0-1 MEAC). QB Princeton Sheppard
threw for 260 yards and 2 TDs and ran in from 17 yards out for another. MEAC
rushing leader Alonzo Coleman of Hampton was held to 43 yards on
17 carries but backup Ardell Daniels totalled 115 yards on 15
carries while scoring the Pirates' final two TDs. Hampton also scored
on linebacker Justin Durant's interception return and three

MSU WR Kelvin Dickens had seven receptions for 147 yards.
Florida A&M 21, Tennessee
State 15
Florida A&M (1-3) got its first win of the season and
handed Tennessee State its first loss when
Roosevelt Kiser hauled in his second fourth quarter TD pass with 2:12 to play at the
Atlanta Classic. Kiser, a freshman, caught 13 passes for 181 yards and
the two scores to offset the 155 rushing yards and one TD from
I-AA rushing leader Charles Anthony of TSU. A crowd of
67,712 packed the Georgia Dome for the game. FAMU's
Ben Dougherty completed 30 of 47 passes for 340 yards and 2 TDs.
Jackson State 31, Mississippi Valley State

Jackson State (1-0, 1-3) scored three fourth quarter TDs to
knock off MVSU (0-3, 0-4) and get its first win of the season.
David Kennebrew (17 car., 108 yds.) scored on runs of 5 and 47 yards
in the final period before Olandus Rogers (12 car., 63 yds.)
capped the scoring with his second TD of the game on a four-yard run.
Clark Atlanta 32, Lane 26, OT
It took four overtime possessions and quite a bit of goings on,
but Clark Atlanta (1-3, 1-3 SIAC) ended a 22-game losing streak
and got the first win for new coach Tayrome
Odums in downing Lane (2-3, 0-3 SIAC). The teams posted nine fumbles, six that
changed hands, two interceptions, four failed PAT attempts and four
missed field goals in the game that was won by CAU on a 25-yard TD
pass from Adrian Johnson to Michael Cunningham
in the fourth OT possession. Fittingly, CAU intercepted Lane QB
Rico Ingram's first pass on the ensuing possession to ice the game. The
game ended in regulation tied at 20. Both teams scored touchdowns,
and missed extra points, in their first overtime possessions
before failing to score in the second and third extra periods.
