HOW THEY DID IT: Game Recaps

­ Wofford 24, South Carolina State 22
SCSU (1-1, 0-0 MEAC) battled back from a 24-3 third quarter deficit but missed an attempt at a tie on a two-point conversion with ten seconds to play in falling to #3-ranked (I-AA) Wofford. SCSU RB Coty Martin (14 car., 41 yds.) was stopped short on a pitchout on the converstion attempt. The Bulldogs had driven 90 yards on 14 plays covering 4:45 on the clock to get the score. Wofford then recovered the onside kick to preserve its win. Wofford returned the opeing kickoff 90 yards for a TD, convertetd 4 of 5 fourth down attempts including a 21-yard TD pass on a fourth-and-five and punted only once in the game. SCSU surrendered a fumble and two interceptions on drives inside Wofford territory. WR Tavarus Morgan (11 rec., 119 yds., 2 TDs) and QB Brett Young (24-37-2, 270 yds., 2 TDs) led the Bulldog offense while Kevin Corley had 9 tackles, 7 solos and an interception to pace the defense.
Bowie State freshman RB Isaac Redman (27) runs for some of his 115 yards vs Virginia State Saturday. Redman scored two TDs in the 26-23 Bowie State win and is now fifth in CIAA rushing stats averaged 74.7 yards per game.

­ Alcorn State 15, NC A&T 13
Alcorn State (2-0, 1-0 SWAC E) drove 80 yards in 15 plays and scored with 36 seconds to play to knock off the Aggies (1-1, 0-0 MEAC) in Lorman, Ms. Robert Lester (21 car.,. 80 yds. ,2 TDs) covered the final three yards after senior QB Donald Carrie (11-23, 179 yds.) led them on the game-winning drive completing five passes including a fourth-and-17 completion to Nate Hughes from the Aggie 27 that set them up at the A&T five in the final minute. Lester would score three plays later. Trailing 13-3, Carrie had hit Charlie Spiller (6 rec., 121 yds.) on a 34-yard reception that set up an early fourth quarter Lester TD run that pulled the Braves to within 13-9. A&T rushed for 224 yards and controlled the game and the clock keeping the ball for more than 35 minutes. Chris Jones ran for 107 yards on 27 carries and had a TD while Micheaux Hollingsworth added 84 yards on 13 carries. .

­ Albany State 42, Kentucky State 7
The defending SIAC champ Golden Rams (3-0, 2-0 SIAC) had no trouble avenging last year's defeat to KSU (2-1, 1-1 SIAC) as RB Antonio Atkins ran 27 times for 145 yards and scored four TDs (1, 3, 8 & 39).

­ Tuskegee 59, Miles 14
Tuskegee (3-0, 2-0 SIAC) scored six rushing touchdowns, one on an interception return and one on a blocked FG attempt in wiping out Miles (1-2, 1-2 SIAC). The Golden Tigers led 39-14 at the half and shutout the Bears in the second half. RB Lawrence Ervin rushed for 86 yards and scored three TDs, DB Demetrius Patterson returned the blocked FG 60 yards for a score and LB Ramone Nickerson returned the pick 32 yards to paydirt.

­ Bowie State 26, Virginia State 23
WR Thomas Glenn caught 7 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns and RB Isaac Redman added 115 yards and two TDs on the ground as the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0 CIAA E) downed the Trojans (2-1, 0-1 CIAA E). VSU WR/KR P. J. Berry returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a score and caught five balls for 87 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Trojans.

­ Gardner-Webb 56, Morgan State 49
The two teams combined for 1,010 total yards, and G-W had 316 of them through the air in downing MSU (1-1, 0-0 MEAC.) The Bears turned the ball over four times, missed three extra points and surrender 528 total yards in the loss allowing G-W QB Nick Roberts to throw for four scores though they picked off four of his passes. MSU QB Bradshaw Littlejohn ran for 120 yards (18 car.) and one score and completed 20 of 46 passes for 257 yards and 2 TDs despite being picked three times. WR Kevin Dickens had five grabs for 145 yards and one TD while Tommy Manus added nine receptions for 66 yards and a score. Craig Nelson rushed for 68 yards and had three TD runs (1, 6 and 3 yards).
