AD ADS: Bethune-Cookman College Associate Athletic Director of Compliance/Student Support Services Tony O'Neal has been named the Athletic Director of Savannah State University. O'Neal has served as the compliance director at B-CC since 2000. O'Neal has also been the coach of the B-CC women's bowling team since its inception in 2003. "I am so happy for Tony and his family," said B-CC Athletic Director Lynn Thompson. "It is a great opportunity for him. We appreciate everything he has done to help improve B-CC's athletic program and he will be missed." O'Neal has nearly 10 years experience as a compliance director and senior level athletic administrator, serving four years as Assistant Director for Compliance at Florida International University in Miami. He has served as Associate Director for Compliance/Academic Services at Delaware State University and has served on several NCAA committees, including Peer Review, Lifeskills Coordinator and the Leadership Conference Selection Committee.

Fayetteville State University Chancellor, Dr. T. J. Bryan has announced that Dr. Major Boyd will serve as interim athletic director at FSU. Boyd will begin his duties Aug. 2, 2004. No timetable has been set for naming a permanent athletic director. A 1960 graduate of FSU with a degree in elementary education, Boyd will oversee the coaches and daily operations of FSU's 12-sport athletic department. He has years of athletic experience to include playing, coaching and academic counseling. Boyd was the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) long jump champion in 1959, and was captain of the track and field and basketball teams during his junior and senior years. He is a member of the FSU Athletic Hall of Fame and CIAA Hall of Fame. Boyd was a CIAA basketball official for thirty years and officiated basketball and football games in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

Although not officially announced, two Tallahassee newspapers are reporting that Dr. Joseph Ramsey II has been named athletic director at Florida A&M. Ramsey was one of four candidates for the position and had been serving as interim AD since the departure of J.R.E. Lee in February. His title was Special Assistant to the President for Athletics. "I'm appreciative of the president giving me the opportunity to finish what I've started," Ramsey told the Tallahassee Democrat. "We're making changes and we're excited about the future of the athletic department." Ramsey, who is also a professor of sports management at FAMU, is slated to officially assume the position Aug.8. He has been at FAMU since 1997 serving as a faculty member in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He has also been the coordinator of the department's graduate program. "I believe Dr. Ramsey will bring leadership because of his familiarity with FAMU," head football coach Billy Joe told the Capital Outlook.

Ending a lot of speculation, Bethune-Cookman College Athletic Director Lynn Thompson announced that he will not accept an offer to become the athletic director of Chicago State and will remain at B-CC. Thompson was offered a multi-year deal to head the department of athletics at Chicago State University, a Division I school with an enrollment of 7,158 students. After careful thought and consideration Thompson says that he and his family have decided to remain at B-CC and continue to help build championship teams in his hometown of Daytona Beach.
