SWAC Media Day
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has finalized plans for the league's 2004 Football Media Day. SWAC Football Media Day will take place on Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Birmingham Sheraton-Downtown from 10am-3pm.

The event, marking the kick-off of the 2004 SWAC football season, will be the culmination of two-days of SWAC action in the city of Birmingham. The conference will also co-sponsor the 1st Annual SWAC Youth Football Clinic on Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 9a-12n at Birmingham's historic Legion Field. The Southwestern Athletic Conference will conclude the 2004 season with the SWAC Football Championship Game in Birmingham on Saturday, December 11 at Legion Field.

This year's Football Media Day program will be streamlined to accommodate coaches' presentation built into the luncheon period without a guest speaker. Media one-on-one interviews with coaches and players will begin after the luncheon from 1p-3p.

Olympic near misses
Two black college products will not be joining U. S. Olympic Track and Field head coach George Williams at next month's games in Athens, Greece after falling just short at the U. S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento this past weekend.

Friday's finals in the triple jump found St. Augustine's product Tim Rusan finishing fourth, just missing a chance to make the team.

After jumping 17.37m (57'), Rusan fouled on his final two attempts and was not able to catch Kenta Bell. Bell jumped 17.58m (57' 8.25") on his third attempt to capture third place in the event.

Rusan is the 2002 and 2003 USA Indoor triple jump champion. He missed the 2003 World Championships because of a stress fracture but recovered to finish strong at the Olympic trials.

Saturday was another frustrating day as 18-year old Morehouse freshman sensation Keith Moffatt finished fourth in the high jump.

Moffatt, the reigning NCAA Division II indoor and SIAC high jump champion, cleared 2.27m (7' 5.25") to tie Tora Harris for third place. However, Harris had passed at 2.24m and placed third based on fewer misses during the finals. Moffatt cleared 2.24m on his second attempt.

Earlier Saturday, former St. Aug hurdler Anwar Moore finished sixth in the 110m hurdle semifinals and failed to advance.
