CIAA

Saint Augustine's rallied from 2-1 deficit to defeat N. C. Central , 3-2 (30-26, 23-30, 28-30, 30-15, 15-13), in the 2003 CIAA Women's Volleyball Championship final at McLendon-McDougald Gym in Durham, NC.

The come-from-behind victory is the fourth consecutive conference title for the Lady Falcons, while the Lady Eagles settle for the runner-up award for the second straight season.

Tournament M.V.P. Magaly Gomez, a 5-11 junior from Lima, Peru, topped the Lady Falcons with 28 kills and 14 digs. All-Tournament Team member Katrina Johnson added 22 kills and 8 digs for St. Augustine's (25-4).

St. Augustine's will now represent the CIAA in the 2003 NCAA Division II Regional Championship.

SIAC 

Albany State captured its third consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) volleyball title last week, and will make their third appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 20-22. The tournament is hosted by Truman University at Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo.

Ranked number six in the region, the Lady Rams, who enter the tournament with a 28-8 overall record, will face the third ranked Central Missouri State University (24-10) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. (CST).

The Lady Rams advanced to the regional tournament by defeating Kentucky State 3-0, and claiming the SIAC championship title.

Albany State and Kentucky State, the SIAC's two best squads, swept individual awards as the all-SIAC team was named. Albany State's Janel Herring was named Offensive Player of the Year. Kentucky State's Stephanie Johnican was named Defensive Player of the Year. Kentucky State's Walter Pauly was named SIAC Coach of the Year and Erica Nepote of Albany State University was named Most Valuable Player.

SWAC

For the fourth consecutive year, the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M swept to the SWAC Volleyball title completing an undefeated 11-0 mark with a championship game 3-0 win over Grambling State. AA&M middle blocker Lutasha Bradley was chosen as tournament most valuable player with a hitting percentage of .442.

The Lady Bulldogs will advance to first round play of the NCAA Div. I Volleyball Championship. Date and times will be determined Sunday, Nov. 30.

Four players from four-time champion Alabama A&M were selected to first team all-SWAC East Division while Prairie View and Grambling both had two players selected on the West squad.
