OFFENSE
STEVE McNAIR, 6-2, 235, QB, Tennessee (9th year, ALCORN STATE)
- Completed 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards and two TDs in win over Miami. He
threw a first quarter TD pass to Tyrone Callico and a 24-yarder scoring strike to
Justin McCareins in the second quarter as the Titans improved to 7-2. It was the
Titans' fouth straight win and sixth straight game in which they've scored 30 or
more points. McNair lost his first three starts against Miami. This time, he came in
as the NFL's top-rated passer, and his offensive line kept Miami from sacking him
at all. The Dolphins had a chance at only one interception, but the ball bounced off safety Brock Marion 's hands in the first quarter. Instead, McNair picked apart a defense already
missing Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas (strained groin). Cornerback Patrick Surtain, who leads
the AFC with six interceptions, stayed on the sideline with a sprained
ankle. "I got that monkey off my back finally ...," McNair said. "Today, I just wanted to be patient, take what they gave
me and not hurt the team in a way to stop any drives." Tennessee so controlled the game
that McNair, who was 17 of 23, went to the bench early in the fourth quarter. |
