for games of 9/14-15

OFFENSE
SHANNON SHARPE, 6-2, 228, TE, Denver (14th year, SAVANNAH STATE) - Four receptions, including a one-yard TD catch and one-handed reception that set up the last score in Broncos' win over San Diego. Sharpe made a one-handed catch of a 26-yard pass from Beuerlein late in the third quarter and Mike Anderson scored on a 1-yard run for a 31-13 lead. "You get a system, you get guys who fit our system, one guy goes out, we don't miss a beat," Sharpe said of RB Clinton Portis and QB Jake Plummer who went down with injuries. "Yeah, we're disappointed we lost those guys, but we're just going to keep chugging away, finding a way to get guys in there who want to play."

DEFENSE
NICHOLAS HARPER, 5-10, 182, DB, Indianapolis (3rd year, FORT VALLEY State) - Had four tackles and one interception returned 75 yards for the final score in Colts' big 33-10 win over defending AFC South champion Tennessee. Harper had two interceptions in the Colts' opening game, and nearly had two others. He earned a starting position in a training camp battle with David Macklin. Harper intercepted a pass from Titans backup quarterback Billy Volek and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown to give Indianapolis a 33-7 lead with 22 seconds remaining. Your mentality changes once you get the ball in your hands," Harper said. "You tend to get more energy once you touch that ball, whether it's two-minute drill, early in the game whatever."
ROBERT MATHIS, 6-2, 235, DE, Indianapolis (1st year, ALABAMA A&M) - Three tackles, a forced fumble and the first two sacks of his career in the 33-10 win over defending AFC South champion Tennessee. "We wanted to use our speed on the Astroturf," Colts head coach Tony Dungy said. "We know here our speed is a big weapon. We know Steve (McNair) is going to run around and move and make some plays, but we had some fast guys rushing the passer today. It was good to see him (Mathis) get on the board. "I think speed does help," Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney said. "We've got (defensive end) Robert Mathis and (safety) Michael Doss out there. It helps, especially with Coach Dungy's defense."
