WRIGHT PASSES: Dr. Catherine Wright, former
Johnson C. Smith Associate Professor and Athletic
Director, passed on Friday at the Hospice Center in Durham.
Dr. Wright had a lasting impact of the University and the
CIAA as both an academic and athletic administrator for more than
15 years. She became the first female athletic director for
JCSU in 1998 and won the CIAA Athletic Director of the Year
Award in 2001. Funeral arrangements were being handled by Ellis D. Jones & Sons in Durham,
NC (919-688-1323).
NEW AD AT JC SMITH: Unrelated to the passing of Dr. Wright, Johnson C. Smith named former Senior Woman's Athletic Administrator, Helen Caldwell, as its interim athletic director. She was appointed as senior woman's administrator in 2001 to monitor gender equity issues and female athletes. She succeeds Dr. Henry E. White.
