    Patillo New AD at Morehouse?

Here's some super poop from the AU Center. Sources indicate that the school is set to name Morehouse grad Andre Patillo as the school's new athletic director. Patillo, who is currently Director of Admissions, is a 1979 graduate and was an all conference football and basketball player. Patillo is one of the most sought after college basketball referees in the country. He is often seen on national TV and has officiated NCAA Division I playoff games.

  • We've also learned that Clark AU Athletic Director Richard Cosby has resigned his post. He is returning to Stillman College of Alabama as that school's new Athletics Director. It was thought Cosby was on the short list to succeed Wallace Jackson as the SIAC's new commissioner.
  • Speaking of the SIAC Commissioner, the council of Presidents is scheduled to begin interviewing in a few days and sources tell us that the man to beat out is Fort Valley graduate and former NFL official Wilson Gocier. Earlier this year at an AU Center basketball game, Gocier made no small secret of his interest in the job.
Other names supposedly on the latest short list include former Grambling President Joseph Johnson, CAU grad Raymond "Tweet" Williams, and former Morehouse head coach Craig Cason.
  • And speaking of Cason, a little bird in Daughtery County reports that he may be in line for some kind of position at Albany State University.
  • DID YOU KNOW that former actress Jane Fonda, once married to media mogul Ted Turner, is a member of a predominately black church in Atlanta. Fonda recently became a Christian and joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church which is pastored by one time Tennessee State University All American cager Dr Gerald R. Durley.
  • Kudos to Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina which has asked Morehouse for permission to move their home game with the Tigers outside South Carolina. The administration there wants to honor the NAACP's boycott of South Carolina until they remove the "swastika of the old south", i.e. the rebel flag.
Benedict has already rescheduled their homecoming game for Charlotte.
  • Condolences to my former Morehouse classmate and great friend Earl Shinholster who left us for a greater reward two weeks ago. He passed on the way he lived, forever fighting for the rights of US.
The Concerned Black Clergy of Metro Atlanta has donated $1000 toward a memorial fund to insure the college education for Earl's son, Michael. If you'd like to contribute in his memory, contact the CBC at (404) 755-4900
  • Although even hard core Morris Brown supporters are a bit dubious about the ability of the AME founded college's ability to survive financially in Division I, it must be noted for the record that their decision to climb up to the NCAA's penthouse makes it the third college in Atlanta and the sixth in the state at that level. MBC is the only Division I-AA football team in the city. The Wolverines join Georgia Tech and Georgia State playing other sports at the Division I level. Georgia State does not have a football team.
Outside of Atlanta, Georgia, Georgia Southern and Mercer sponsor DI sports.
