Spirit Awards Finalists Announced

Los Angeles, CA - The finalists for the sixth annual Spirit Awards - Paul "Tank" Younger Trophy, which honors the top player in Black College Footbal, have been announced. Representing three offensive and three defensive positions, the finalists were selected by a group of media representatives and sports information directors throughout the country. The largest overall votegetter is awarded the Younger Trophy, named for the former Grambling State All-American running back who cleared the way for the hundreds of black college players that followed him into the National Football League (NFL).

The winners will be featured and the Younger Trophy winner unveiled in a nationally syndicated television special from Hollywood.

The Spirit Awards is sponsored by The Rutherford Group.Finalists for the 1999 season are Leon Murray - Tennessee State (offensive back), Bennie Anderson - Tennessee State (offensive lineman), Sylvester Morris - Jackson State (receiver), Darryl Klugh - N.C. A&T (defensive back), Demarcus Miller - Southern (defensive lineman) and Tommie Head - Jackson State (linebacker).
