Runs for 93 yards
Livingstone's Wilmont Perry Gets First Start As a Saint

December 7, 1999

By Leonard Haynes

SALISBURY, NC -- Having been inactive for the NFL's New Orleans Saints' first eight games this season, running back Wilmont Perry never knows what to expect when he comes to the stadium on Sundays.

So Sunday at the Georgia Dome, Perry was caught a bit off-guard when head coach Mike Ditka told him moments before kickoff that he'd be starting at tailback.

A fifth-round draft pick from Livingstone (N.C.) College in 1998, Perry responded well with 93 yards on 16 carries against the Falcons.

Keep an eye out for Perry as he and the Saints attempt to finish their season strong.

Livingstone College is member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). CIAA was founded in 1912 and is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the United States. It is comprised of 12 historically black colleges and universities, and this season teh CIAA will celebrate its 54th anniversary. The CIAA is home to the largest sporting event in NCAA Division II athletics, and is the third largest tournament in college basketball at any level.
