
Livingstone's Ronnie Washburn To Play In Snow Bowl
January 10, 2000SALISBURY, NC -- Ronnie Washburn of Shelby, NC, the starting defensive end for the Livingstone College football team for the past two years, will be playing in the Snow Bowl in Fargo, N.D., Saturday Jan. 15 in the Fargodome. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. (CST).

The purpose of the game is to provide exposure for players to Pro Scouts, raise charitable funds for the Shriners Hospitals for children, and to provide a quality football and educational opportunity for the players.Snow Bowl officials report that 54 scouts were registered in 1998, representing the NFL, CFL and some Arena Football Teams.The game features outstanding NCAA Division II players who concluded their career this fall. Washburn is one of 47 players on the East team's roster. Washburn was a two-time all-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association first-team selection and earned CIAA Defensive Player of the Year in 1998 along with a conference championship. He was also selected All-American from the Football Gazette, Street & Smith, USA Football, and the college sports information directors.During his career, Washburn participated in 61 tackles, including 54 that were unassisted. He also had 17 sacks, and 37 tackles for -158 yards. Additionally, Washburn played running back during his senior year as a Blue Bear rushing for 2 touchdowns on 2 carries.The 6-5, 265 pounder who was regarded as an exceptional defensive player throughout his career, will be the first Livingstone College gridder to play in the Snow Bowl.Washburn used a majority of his time during the Christmas holidays to prepare for his trip to the Snow Bowl. He is excited about being chosen and looks forward to making a positive impact in Saturday's contest. "I hope to make the Snow Bowl a springboard for a shot at playing professional football," said Washburn.There is only one other player from a CIAA school that will also be in this year's game. Winston-Salem State, the 1999 CIAA Champions, will be represented by Thomas Washington, a 6-4, 310 pound defensive tackle from Charleston, SC.
