| Delaware State Dips into CIAA, AgainMay 19, 2000After luring Greg Jackson away from N.C. Central, Delaware State has dipped into the CIAA again to find a women's basketball coach. Ed Davis, who coached Bowie State into the CIAA finals this year, is scheduled to be introduced as the Lady Hornets next coach at a press conference next week. Delaware State president William DeLauder said Davis was offered a multi-year contract. "We do want to be competitive," DeLauder said. "And he has been almost as competitive in women's basketball as [new men's coach] Greg Jackson has been in men's basketball." Davis built Bowie State into a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association power. In eight years, he guided the team to a 165-62 record and three league titles. "I think the big thing that attracted me [to DSU] was the commitment of the university to get the program competitive with the rest of the teams in the [Mid-Eastern Athletic] conference," Davis said. "I felt that I could do that for them." Davis, 49, is a native of Washinton, D.C. He graduated from West Virginia State College in 1970 and Howard in 1973. He has one daughter, Artist (25), and one son, Bryan (5). He replaces Jackie DeVane, who resigned last month after five years to become women's basketball coach at Monmouth (N.J.) University.
