| Benedict names Cedric Baker as women's basketball coachJuly 17, 2000Cedric Baker has been named the women's basketball coach at Benedict College. Baker comes to Benedict after seven years at Voorhees College where hecomplied a 114-85 record at the school including four EasternIntercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and three NAIANational tournament appearances. Last season Voorhees finished 12-0 in the EIAC, made NAIA National fieldand was ranked 16th in the final top 25 poll. Baker, who is a 1990 graduate of Voorhees, says he has always beenimpressed with the Benedict program. "I like the direction the Benedict has its program going," Baker said."I will be taking over a program that has a sound foundation.Defensively, they were ranked among the top 25 nationally last season.Most of those players are back and that's a strength we will build on. Ifeel it will be an easy transition." Baker began his coaching career as the varsity girl's basketball coachat Russell County High School in Seale, Alabama.
