| Alcorn State Men's Tennis Team Heads to NCAA PlayoffsMay 9, 2000ALCORN STATE, Miss. - The Alcorn State University men's tennis team will get set to play in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. The tournament is set to take place on the weekend of May 13-14 at W.T. "Dub" Robinson Tennis Stadium on LSU's campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Braves first round opponent will be the LSU Tigers at noon Saturday. The second match of the day will feature the Clemson Tigers against the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes which will take place at 3 p.m. The winners of both matches will square off on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Alcorn State enters this tournament with a 17-7 overall record under the guidance of third year head coach Tony Dogden who earned Southwestern Athletic Conference coach of the year honors for the second straight year. The Tigers finished the 2000 regular season with a 18-5 overall record. The team is currently ranked tenth in the country according to the International Tennis Association and 12th on the Daily Tennis Coaches Poll. The Braves completed their regular season with the 2000 SWAC championship at the Olean B. Underwood Tennis Center in Montgomery, Alabama on the weekend of April 20-22. This marked the second straight year the Braves have won the SWAC title and received an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The Braves entered the SWAC tournament as the number one seed and lived up to it in more ways than one. Following a first round bye, the team beat number eight seed Prairie View A&M 4-0. Then in the semifinal round, the Braves disposed of the tournament host Alabama State 4-0. In the championship match, the team beat Texas Southern in the same fashion as the previous tournament opponents by a score of 4-0.
