Atlanta Football Classic Set for the Weekend
Hank Aaron to be honored

September 15, 1999

ATLANTA, GA -- Tennessee State University takes on Florida A&M University in the 11th Annual Atlanta Football Classic, Saturday, September 18 at the Georgia Dome. Game kick-off is 3:30 p.m. in a contest for bragging rights in the Fury For The Flag.

"We're excited about the energy surrounding this year's classic," says John Grant, Atlanta Football Classic Chairman. "It's sure to be a memorable battle for the trophy, as well as the new bragging rights tradition embodied in the special edition pennant we've created for this year's champion."

The FAMU Rattlers and TSU Tigers will battle for a specially designed championship pennant, which confers upon the winning team bragging rights through the year 2000 when the all-time rivals meet again, to see if this year's winner can hold on to the "flag."

In addition to revisiting the TSU vs. FAMU gridiron saga, the 1999 Atlanta Football Classic will serve as a celebration of African-American achievement, honoring All-American hero and baseball legend Hank Aaron. A BMW Z3 Roadster 2.8 will be raffled during the game and proceeds benefit the Hank Aaron "Chasing the Dream" Foundation.

Nearly 65,000 spectators are expected to feel the fury of one of black college football's hottest games of the year when they converge on Atlanta for an event-packed weekend, scheduled to include: a golf outing, step show, battle-of-the-bands, 5K race, college/career fair, interactive Fanfest, and post-game celebration.

In the game's tradition of competition and community service, proceeds raised by the Atlanta Football Classic benefit 100 Black Men of Atlanta's Project Success, an educational, mentoring and enrichment program providing financial and academic support and cultural enrichment to local high school and elementary school students.

Coca-Cola, Coors, Bank of America, United Parcel Service, AT&T, WXIA Channel 11, WALR-FM Kiss 104.7, MARTA, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution sponsor this year's game. Game tickets can be purchased for $25 or $20 through TicketMaster and the Georgia Dome box office. For tickets call 404.249.6400 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
