Hampton, VA... Morgan State University defeated 4-1 Delaware State University in a play-in match in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.
In doubles play, the Lady Bear combo of Courtney Jones and Latricia Hall defeated Naomi Hype and Lynelle Thorpe of DSU, 8-1. Delaware State's Rakina Johnson and Kisha Barnett beat Ayana Thompson and LaRae Brannon at the number two spot. In singles, Jones, Hall, and Brannon swept Delaware State to give Morgan the win.
Morgan will play Bethune-Cookman in the next round. Delaware State ended its season with the loss to Morgan.

Lady Bulldogs, Aja Sterling and Janine Reasoner led SCSU to a 5-2 victory in the play-in round of the MEAC Tennis Tournament. Sterling defeated Coppin State's Laquisha Harvey in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Reasoner also performed well winning her match over Lady Eagle Brandie Mathies, 6-2, 6-3. Coppin State's only points came in defaults in singles and doubles play.

Hampton, VA - Bethune-Cookman College's women began first round play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament and took down Morgan State University, 5-0. As the number one seed BCC had the luxury of playing Morgan State at noon after the number nine seed defeated Delaware State earlier in the day.
Two of Bethune's points came at the number three seed in doubles and the number six seed in singles as defaults. Marta Kostrhounova and Klara Miklikova defeated Courtney Jones and Latricia Hall 8-2 at the number one seed in doubles while teammates Dorota Glowacka and Martina Tekalova went 8-1 for the win over Ayanna Thompson and LaRue Brannon. After Glowacka defeated Hall 6-0,6-0 in singles' number two spot, play in the rest of the matches was stopped due to that win being the final point needed for a win.
Bethune-Cookman will advance to the semi-finals where they will face last year's champion and host Hampton University, Fri., Apr. 16, at 2 p.m. Morgan State will play Howard University in the loser's bracket on Fri., at 2 p.m. at Phoebus High School.

Hampton's top seeds, Kate Stecova and Cristina Ferreira, won in straight sets pacing the Lady Pirates win over Howard. Hampton clinched the win, pulling out two of the three doubles points. Howard's points came from the three and four seeds.
Hampton will face Bethune-Cookman in the semi-finals at 11am on HU's campus while Howard will take on N.C. A&T at 8am at Hampton High.
