Savannah State's Curtis Relieved of Coaching Duties

April 27, 1999

Savannah, GA - Savannah State University athletics director Dr. Jerome H. Fitch announced today that Jacques Curtis has been relieved of the head men's basketball coaching duties at the university. Fitch said that the change was made in order to improve the competitive level of the program. Curtis took over as head men's basketball coach in 1997 when Jimmie Westley was moved to a coaching position on the golf team. In his first year at the helm, Curtis led his squad to an 11-16 overall record and 6-9 SIAC mark. This past season, Curtis was 9-18 overall and 4-11 in the conference. Curtis came to Savannah State as assistant director of auxiliary services after a nine-year stint as an assistant basketball coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
