N.C. A&T Men's Basketball Coach Roy Thomas Resigns

Greensboro, NC - Roy Thomas, who led the North Carolina A&T State University men’s basketball team for five years, submitted his resignation yesterday to Dr. Edward Fort, Chancellor.

Chancellor Fort, in accepting the resignation, commended coach Thomas for winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament in the 1994-95 season, hif first year at the NCA&T helm.

This season’s 13-15 record game Thomas a 61-79 overall record during his stay at NC A&T. The Aggies has a 46-42 MEAC record during his stint.

Fort immediately announced that Thomas’s top assistant Curtis Hunter has been hired as interim head coach under a one-year contract agreement. Hunter has been with the team simce 1997

Hunter played four years of varsity basketball at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill from 1982-87. He was a McDonald’s High School All-American in 1982. Hunter played professional basketball from 1987 to 1992 in Australia and England before serving two years as the head varsity men’s coach and men’s track coach at Chapel Hill High School. Prior to coming to A&T, he served in as an assistant men’s basketball coach and women’s cross country coach at Fayetteville State University from 1995-97.

He is married to the former Danielle Marie Kirkley and they have one daughter, Sydney.
