Hampton, VA…Hampton University's head football coach, Joe Taylor announced the 1999 football schedule, which will be the most exciting and competitive in school history. "This will be the most competitive schedule because we are playing top teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), as well as our conference, which is one of the best in Division I-AA," said Taylor.
The exciting part of the schedule is the participation in four classic games, which will have the Pirates playing in four NFL venues. The Pirates will play Howard University in the Southwest Airlines/Greater Washington Urban League Classic (RFK Stadium/ Washington, DC-September 11), University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff in the Gateway Classic (TransWorld Dome/St. Louis, MO-September 18), Grambling State (Giant Stadium/ East Rutherford, NJ-September 25), and Southern University (RCA Dome/Indianapolis, IN-October 2).
The Pirates will open their home schedule on September 4th with conference rival Delaware State and will be on the road the next six weekends. Florida A&M (October 23), South Carolina State (October 30/Homecoming) and Morgan State (November 20) round out the Pirates home schedule. "The schedule is tough but it will give us great visibility," concluded Taylor.
