
Indianapolis, IN - St. Augustine's, Morehouse, Shaw, Virginia State and N.C. Central provided All-American performances at the 1999 NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships, March 5-6 at the RCA Dome.
Abilene Christian won both the men's and women's team championships with St. Augustine's finishing second in both competitions.
In the men's events, St. Aug's Deworski Odom won both the 55 meter dash (6.28 sec) and 55 meter hurdles (7.27 sec) events while Morehouse captured the 4 X 400 meter relay title in 3:15.25 with a team composed of Horace Steele, Jelani Liddell, Karem Morrell and Todd Smith.
Shaw University's Melvin Bennett finished second to Odom in the 55M dash. Odom's teammate Gabriel Burnett finished 4th in the 55M hurdles.
Other All-American performances by HBCU representatives included Lance Gooden - St. Aug (3rd) and Dane Maglorie - St. Aug (5th) in the long jump; Maglorie, (2nd), Gooden (3rd) and Cleveland McClory - St. Aug (4th) in the triple jump; Momodou Drammeh - Morehouse (2nd) in the 800M run and Gregory Roberts - Morehouse (2nd) in the high jump.
Performers earn All-American honors by finished in the top six in the finals of an event.
In women's events, St. Augustine's Adriane Sims captured the high jump title with a leap of 1.87m (6 feet 1.5 inches)
