Newsroom Index Becomea Booster Front Page | SWAC releases football television package, 13-game slate includes all 10 schoolsBIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has released its2000 Football Television Package and the 13-game slate will give all 10members of the conference regional and/or national exposure this season.Rudy Washington, the commissioner of the SWAC, said he's happy with theleague's second-ever television package. "I'm very happy that we're able to get all of teams some excellentregional and national exposure on television this season," stated Washington. "But not only that, I'm also thrilled at the line-up of games that fansacross the country will be able to see. We'll be showcasing some of the mostcompetitive and marquee match-ups in Division I-AA football." The 2000 television package will kick off with the annual Labor DayClassic between rivals Prairie View A&M University and Texas SouthernUniversity in Houston, Tex. on September 2. The 7 p.m. contest will be thedebut game broadcast of the new Major Broadcast Company (MBC), headquarteredin Atlanta, Ga. The game will also be carried on a 15-station syndicatednetwork. On September 9, the Arkansas Classic will take center stage as theUniversity of Arkansas at Pine Bluff hosts Southern University in LittleRock, Ark. The 7 p.m. game will be carried by Black Entertainment Television(BET). Concurrently at that time, Grambling State University's 7 p.m. game atthe University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky. will also be televised on anetwork to be announced. The Jackson State University-Tennessee State University contest onSeptember 16, billed as the Southern Heritage Classic, will be televised byBET. The game's played at 6 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn. On September 23, perhaps the most anticipated game of the year will betelevised when last year's SWAC Football Championship Game contestants,Jackson State and Southern University, square off at the Louisiana Superdomein New Orleans, La. MBC will air this 1:30 p.m. clash as will the lineup ofsyndicate stations. The annual Circle City Classic, slated for 4 p.m. (EDT) in Indianapolis,Ind. on October 7, will air on BET and will feature Grambling State andFlorida A&M University. The 7 p.m. Red River Classic between Arkansas-Pine Bluff and GramblingState on October 14 in Shreveport, La. will air on MBC while the 3 p.m.October 28 clash between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State Universityin Birmingham will be televised by BET. On November 4, the 6:30 p.m. Florida A&M-Southern contest in Baton Rouge,La. will be televised on a network to be announced while the November 11 gamebetween Mississippi Valley State University and Alabama State at 1 p.m. inMontgomery will be televised by MBC/Syndication. BET is slated to televise the annual 1:30 p.m. Capital City Classicbetween Alcorn State University and Jackson State on November 18 in Jackson,Miss. A week later, the regular-season closes out with the NBC-televisedState Farm Bayou Classic between Grambling State and Southern at 1 p.m. fromthe Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The year closes out with the second annual SWAC Football ChampionshipGame at 1 p.m. at Legion Field in Birmingham.
