Clark Atlanta University to host 20th Annual Ricky Williams Basketball Classic

Atlanta, GA - On December 1-2, 2000 the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) men's basketball program will host the 20th Annual Ricky Williams Basketball Classic in the L.S. Epps Gymnasium on the campus. The Classic honors Eddie Ricardo "Ricky" Williams, a former Clark College basketball player who was killed in an automobile accident on September 5, 1981.

While at Clark College, Williams received many honors and awards for his outstanding basketball play. Williams was named to the All-SIAC Conference Team (1976-780, The ALL-Georgia Invitational Tournament Team (1976-770, SIAC Player of the Year (1976); Extra Point Club Most Valuable Player (1976-77); Atlantic Classic All-Tournament Team (1976-77); Most Valuable Player (1978) and Best First Year Player (1976-77).

In addition to the CAU Panthers, this year's Classic will feature the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU), the Eagles of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and the Rams of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). The Panthers and Wildcats are members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Eagles and Rams are from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

The 20th Annual Ricky Williams Basketball Classic kicks off with a luncheon on Friday, December 1, 2000 at 12 noon in CAU's Research and Education Center Exhibition Hall.

Basketball action begins on Friday night, December 1, 2000 at 6 p.m. when FVSU meets NCCU followed by WSSU versus CAU at 8 p.m.. On Saturday, December 2, FVSU meets WSSU in the 6 p.m. contest and the Classic concludes when CAU plays NCCU in the 8 p.m. game.
