| Texas tops Alcorn State in NCAA women's tennis regionals May 12, 2001AUSTIN- The University of Texas and TCU women's tennis teams botheasily picked up victories in the first round of the 2001 NCAAWomen's Tennis Regional Championships on Saturday at Penick-AllisonTennis Center in Austin. With the wins, both teams advance to faceeach other in Sunday's second round match at 1 p.m. at Penick-AllisonTennis Center. Texas gave up only one game during the entire match to breeze by Alcorn State, 4-0. Senior Janet Walker (Seffner, Fla./Canterbury) posted her second consecutive shutout victory at the No. 2 position, defeating Sandra Keaveney(6-0, 6-0) to seal the overall match for UT. Freshman Michelle Krinke (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) tabbed the first singles win of theday for the Longhorns, downing Theresa Kennedy (6-0, 6-0), followed by junior Kaysie Smashey (El Paso, Texas/Franklin) defeating DanaChilds (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5. |
