Clark Atlanta appoints first female Director of Athletics

Atlanta, GA... Clark Atlanta University (CAU) has appointed Brenda L. Edmond as the new director of athletics.  Currently, Ms. Edmond is the Assistant Director of Athletics at Southern University and now becomes the first female athletics director in the history of Clark Atlanta University.  .

In addition to serving as the Assistant Director of Athletics at Southern University since 1997, Edmond also served as interim Director of Athletics from 1999 to 2000. She has also held the positions of Director of Laboratory Experiences and Assistant Professor of Health Education at Southern University.

According to Edmond, one of her primary goals is to "effectively communicate with students, faculty, administrators, coaches, alumni and university supporters to generate interest in Clark Atlanta University Athletics."

"We are very pleased with the appointment of Ms. Edmond. As CAU embarks upon a new era in athletics, we look forward to working with her and the experience and leadership she will bring to help us move the athletics program forward" said CAU President Thomas Cole, Jr.

Edmond will begin her duties as athletics director on June 4, 2001.  She replaces the late Dr. Jean Chandler who served as Interim Athletics Director from July 1, 2000 until her death in October 2000.  CAU Lady Panther Basketball Coach Angelyne Brown was appointed Interim Director, effective January 1, 2001 and served during the extensive national search for a permanent director of athletics led by the Athletics Committee chaired by Dean Edward Davis.
