Alcorn State releases 2001 football scheduleApril 2, 2001ALCORN STATE, Miss. - The Alcorn State University athletics department officially releases the 2001 football schedule. This schedule will have eleven games including six home games at Jack Spinks Stadium on Alcorn State's campus. This schedule will feature the traditionally tough Southwestern Athletic Conference schools along with non-conference opponents McNeese State and Fort Valley State. A new addition to the schedule will be the return of Samford University and first-time opponent Cal Poly State. The Braves will open the 2001 season on September 1st against Grambling State at Jack Spinks Stadium. From that point, the team will spend the next four weekends on the road beginning with Alabama State on September 8th at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. Then on September 15th, the team will travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to take on the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions at Golden Lion Stadium. On September 22nd, the Braves will head to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on Division I-AA powerhouse McNeese State at Cowboy Stadium. Then on September 29th, the team will head to Fort Valley, Georgia to face Fort Valley State at Wildcat Stadium. On the following weekend, the team will have its only open weekend of the season. In the following weekends to come, the Braves will return to the state of Mississippi for the remainder of the season including the next five weekends at Jack Spinks Stadium. On October 13th, the team will face Samford University while on October 20th will be against Prairie View A&M for homecoming. Then on October 27th, the team will face first-time opponent Cal Poly State to close out the month of October. On November 3rd, the Braves will host Mississippi Valley State while closing out the home stand against Alabama A&M on November 10th. Then on the following weekend, the team will close out the season against Jackson State in the Annual Capital City Classic against Jackson State at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on November 17th in Jackson.
