SALISBURY, NC - Two second-half interceptions keyed Saint Augustine's College to a 28-6 victory over Livingstone College in a CIAA football contest Saturday (Oct. 18) at Alumni Memorial Stadium. The Falcons defeated Livingstone on the Blue Bears' Homecoming Day.
Cornerback Myron Miller (Statesville, NC) returned one interception 20 yards for a touchdown to give the Falcons (3-5 overall, 2-3 CIAA) a 20-6 lead with 3:54 left in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, cornerback Charles McKenzie (Warner Robins, GA) ran back an interception 19 yards to the Livingstone 16-yard line which set up quarterback Kris Brownlee's (Philadelphia, PA) 11-yard touchdown run two plays later. Brownlee scored the two-point conversion to give the Falcons a 28-6 lead with 12:09 left in the game.
Brownlee also threw a touchdown pass for the Falcons,who also got key contributions from tailback Walter Sanders (Baltimore, MD) and defensive tackle Marcus Kennedy (Georgetown, SC). Sanders rushed 20 times for a career-high 153 yards and a touchdown and Kennedy collected nine tackles including three tackles for loss and one sack for the Falcons, who set a season high in points scored and tied a season-high in points allowed.
The Falcons gained 321 total offensive yards and were 7-of-15 on third-down conversions while holding the Blue Bears to 203 total yards including 66 rushing yards. The Blue Bears were 1-of-12 on third-down conversions.
The Blue Bears (3-5, 3-2 CIAA) led 6-0 with 9:11 in the second quarter when Rashaad Flucker caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bryan Aycoth. The Falcons took a 7-6 lead three minutes later when Brownlee connected with Jamain Smith (Kenansville, NC) for a seven-yard touchdown and Adison Daniels (Raleigh, NC) converted the extra point. The Falcons stretched the lead to 14-6 in the second quarter on Sanders' 24-yard run and Daniels' extra point.
The Falcons host Fayetteville State University on Oct. 25 at Broughton High School Stadium. Game time is 1:30 p.m. The Blue Bears host defending CIAA champion Shaw University at 1:00 p.m.
