Benedict 13, Albany State 10

[Columbia, SC] Benedict shocked Albany State, 13-10 to pick up their first win over the Golden Rams in six years.

In the 1st quarter Benedict got on the board first with a 73 yard TD pass from QB # 5 Robert Reese to WR # 81 Corey Gardhigh for the score 7-0 BC. Surprising the BC fans with a new found passing game on their first scoring drive that only took 3 plays, 74 yards and 1:53 off the clock. Strong defense would hold the Rams of ASU to just 58 rushing yards in the quarter.

In the middle of a heavily contested 2nd quarter the Tigers tightened up their defensive grip with a interception by DB # 23 Dwight Logen with 6:05 on the clock. The Rams would catch a break however with a personal foul penalty against the Tigers with 2:03 left on the clock. K # 10 Juan Bongarra hits a 39 yard field goal to make it 3-7 BC. ASU would try to score again with a 42 yard field goal that was blocked by DB # 15 Anthony Harvey to end the half.

The 3rd would prove to be costly for the Tigers by turning the ball over on downs with 10:13 on the clock. RB Kisan Flakes rumbles into the end zone from the 1 yard line for the score 10- 7 ASU. In the 4th RB # 26 Lamont Downing breaks 3 tackles and goes down the side line for 32 yard TD run 13-10 BC.

At (3-2) overall and (2-1) in the SIAC the Tigers take their winning streak in to Birmingham, AL where they will face off against Miles College October 4, 2008. Kickoff time is at 2:00 pm CST.
