Fayetteville State 28, Saint Paul's 0

Fayetteville, NC – On Saturday evening, the Saint Paul’s College Tigers (2-2 Overall, 0-1 CIAA) traveled to Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium where they took on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University (3-1 Overall, 1-0 CIAA). The Tigers fought hard in their first CIAA conference game of the season but were beaten by the Broncos, 28-0.

In the first half, the Tigers managed to push the ball down the field several times but were unable to put any points on the scoreboard. Freshmen running back Nicholas Bethea was a efficient offensive weapon for the Tigers, carrying the ball eight times totaling 110-yards in the first half alone. Gregory Toler proved to be the first half force for the Tigers' defensive unit with 4 tackles and several pass break-ups. Saint Paul’s trailed the Broncos 13-0 at halftime.

The Tigers were unable to overcome a first half deficit as they lose, 28-0. The Tigers finished the game with 232 total yards of offense. Nicholas Bethea finished the game rushing for 125-yards on 17 carries.

Greg Toler continued to be tough on defense in the second half. Toler ended the game with seven tackles, with one tackle being for a loss of two yards and three pass break-ups. The Tiger defense was anchored by Cameron Brunson leading all SPC defenders with 10 total tackles and three being for a loss of yards.

The Tigers’ record falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA Conference. Saint Paul’s will look to improve their record next Saturday, September 27, when they return home to take on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Cameron Field in Petersburg, VA.
