Virginia State University's Justin Parker hit a 20-yard field goal with eight seconds left to play to lift the Trojans to a 6-3 win over Saint Augustine's College on Saturday in Rogers Stadium in Ettrick, Va.
Parker accounted for all of VSU's points as the sophomore kicker from Petersburg, Va., connected on a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Saint Augustine's drew first blood in the defense-dominated game as the Falcons' kicker, Addison Daniels, hit on a 25-yard field goal.
VSU however, tied the score at 1:22 in the first quarter with Parker's field goal.
VSU came close several times, including having the ball twice on the Saint Augustine 1-yard line twice, but the Falcons' defense stiffened both times.
VSU freshman Taron Hampton led the Trojans in rushing with 94 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Leonard Johnson passed for 117 yards.
The win evens VSU's record at 2-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in CIAA conference play. Saint Augustine's dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in CIAA play.
VSU now faces Fayetteville State University in Rogers Stadium in Ettrick, Va., on September 27.
