![]() Shaw 76, Elizabeth City State 62 The first half was the Celanese Bozeman (Hampton, VA) and Tanisha McGaughey (Norfolk, VA) show for the Bears. Bozeman hit the first three pointer of the half; the first of three. McGaughey led all scorers in the first half with 13 points. Ashley Jackson (Hobbs, NM) added nine points. On one of her fast breaks, the alumni yelled to Jackson to, 'Dunk it!" She put in the lay-up for the two points. The Bears went up by as many as 20 with two minutes left on the clock for the half; 41-21. Rebecca Hyppolite (Montreal, Quebec) dominated the boards with six rebounds. As the clock ticked away towards halftime, the Bears held the big lead and finished 44-23. The second half came with a new resolve for the Vikings. With their defense into fifth gear, they scored nine points early on. Bozeman's hot hand continued in the second half with her first at the 15:57 mark; the Bears went up 50-32. Jan'el Baxter (Raleigh, NC) dropped in the last basket of the game to seal the win for the Bears. Newcomers Octavia Trammell (Leesburg, VA), KeyAuna Jenkins (Cleveland, OH) and Saundra Proctor (Denver, CO) provided more depth to the Bears team. Bozeman finished as the leading scorer for the Bears with 18 points. McGaughey was all over the court with 15 points, 3 assists, 1 block and 2 rebounds. Jackson had a great game and finished with 13 points, 1 assist and 2 rebounds. The Bears will take on Lincoln University on Thursday, January 8th at 5:30 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. |
