SC-Aiken 80, Shaw 60

Aiken, SC – The Lady Bears faced off against USC-Aiken in their first game of the new year in the Convocation Center. The Bears fell shy of victory 80-60.

The Bears led most of the first half. A three pointer by Octavia Trammel put the Bears ahead 16-12 at the 12:58 mark. They bridged the gap by 10 with a jumper by Ashley Jackson (Hobbs, NM) to go up 25-15. USC rallied to stay close and tied the game at 29 with 4:34 left in the first half. A couple of free throws by Jessica Davis (Cleveland, OH) and Jackson sent the Bears to the locker room with a 38-35 lead.

USC found their chemistry and jumped ahead by eight with 13:22 left in the second half. They continued to pull away and the Bears never recovered from the gap in the second half. In her best game of the season, Ashley led the Bears with 18 points and seven rebounds shooting 7-13 from the floor and Davis tossed in 14 points.

The Bears will take on Elizabeth City State University on January 6th in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
