St. Augustine's 88, Pfeiffer 86

MISENHEIMER, NC – Freshman center Keyona Bryant (Springdale, Md.) scored a game-high 22 points and collected eight rebounds as Saint Augustine’s College edged Pfeiffer University 88-86 Saturday (Jan. 3) in a non-conference women’s basketball game.

Sophomore forward LaKeisha White (Richmond, Va.) added 17 points and sophomore guard Whitney Griffis (Richmond, Va.) pumped in 15 points for the Lady Falcons, who led most of the contest. Sophomore forward Allison Sikes (Richmond, Va.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Falcons (5-5 overall).

Allegra Shanee Purnell scored 21 points and Devona Knight added 19 points and seven assists for Pfeiffer (0-7), which trailed 83-76 with 2:06 left in the game but finished with a 10-5 run. Dominique China chipped in 14 points for Pfeiffer, which forced 29 Lady Falcon turnovers.

The Lady Falcons, who led 45-39 at halftime, shot 45 percent and held Pfeiffer to 36 percent shooting. They also dominated the glass, outrebounding Pfeiffer 50-33.

The Lady Falcons visit Saint Paul’s College on Tuesday (Jan. 6) in Lawrenceville, Va. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
