Alabama A&M 56, Miss Valley State 40

Itta Bena, MS--- The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes suffered a,56-40, loss in their home conference opener against the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A & M.

The first half began and ended sluggishly for both teams as they struggled from the floor. With the Devilettes holding a, 7-4, lead after nine minutes the Lady Bulldogs answered to take the lead and though the Devilettes stayed nip/tuck throughout the half they never regained the lead trailing, 21-20, at the half.

The Devilettes opened the second half regaining the lead briefly behind a staunch defense that caused 23 turnovers with 13 steals. However, the Devilettes continued to struggle on the offensive end and the Lady Bulldogs squeaked by and pulled out of reach.

Valley (3-10, 0-2) was led by Colby Stallings 11 points and six steals. Ashley Brown had nine points and six rebounds, while Kanesha Smith added eight points and eight rebounds. Michelle Messaga added 10 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Katrich Williams nine points. Eric Thompson, Brittany Manning and Chaymieyon Moss had eight points apiece.

The Devilettes return to action Monday night when they host the Alabama State Hornets at 5:30 pm in the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on the MVSU campus.
