Virginia Union 75, Saint Paul's 72

Lawrenceville, Virginia - The Saint Paul's College Tigers played one of their best games of the season against the Panthers of Virginia Union University but fall short, 75-72. With four players in double figures the for the Tigers maintain their composure in the second half and make it exciting at the close.
After being down by 15-points at halftime, the Tigers return in the second half with patience and confidence as they cut away at the Panthers lead. With just under two minutes left in the game the Tigers even the score at 69 on a jumper in the paint by sopohmore forward Maurice Reevy.
After a couple of missed jumpers by the Tigers, Panther's senior forward Greg Thondique converts on two field goals pushing the Panther lead to four with a minute left.
The Tigers weather the storm as forward Anthony Wynn is fouled on a made lay-up. Wynn finished the play with the free throw making the score 73-75.
With about 16 seconds remaining, the Tigers' defense falters one last time allowing Panthers' Braxton Byerson to score on jumper pushing the Panthers lead to three and giving the game its final score, 75-72.
Anthony Wynn led all Tigers' scores with his second double-double of the week with 14-points and 11 rebounds. Tiger newcomers Bruce Royal, Davon West and Ricardo Pride all contributed with double figures of 13, 13, and 10 points.
Virgina Union forward Greg Thondique led all scorers in the game with a 29 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds.
The Saint Paul's College Tigers return to action on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 when they travel to Fayetteville State to take on the Broncos. Game time is slated for 7:30pm at the Capel Arena.
