Saint Augustine's 80, Saint Paul's 55

LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. - Saint Augustine's College relied on defense and depth to rip Saint Paul's College 80-55 Tuesday (Jan. 6) at Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium for its seventh straight victory.

The 25-point margin of victory was the largest this season for the Falcons, who upped their record to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the CIAA. The Tigers fell to 2-6 and 0-3 in the CIAA.

The Falcons had balanced scoring as seven players scored six or more points. Sophomore forward Shaun Washum (Norfolk, Va.) led the Falcons with 16 points and junior guard Chris Jordan (Houston, Texas) added 12 points. Senior guards Will Gill (Clinton, Md.) and Marcus Butler (Mansfield, Ohio) and junior guard Steven Brignol (Brooklyn, NY) added nine points each.

The Falcons forced the Tigers to shoot 26.3 percent in the first half on their way to a 36-21 halftime lead. The Tigers shot better in the second half (41.4 percent) but the Falcons, who never trailed, made 53.8 percent of their shots in the half. Overall, the Falcons shot 46 percent while limiting the Tigers to 35.4 percent shooting and forcing 20 turnovers. The Falcons , led by nine rebounds from sophomore forward Hayward Fain (Akron, Ohio) also controlled the boards by a 46-30 margin.

Anthony Wynn led the Tigers with 14 points and 11 rebounds and George Leseur added 13 points.

The Falcons host Livingstone College Thursday (Jan. 8) at Emery Gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
