Fayetteville State 90, Lincoln (PA) 78

Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State (8-2 overall) played host to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania in Felton J. Capel Arena and enjoyed a 90-78 victory. Darshawn Johnson led the Broncos with a career high performance of 21 points. Four others scored in double figures as FSU made 27 of 60 field goals (45%) and 32 of 43 free throws (74.4%). The first half was competitive as the crowd saw six lead changes and the Broncos sit on an eight point lead at intermission (46-38).

Darshawn Johnson, a senior guard from Brooklyn, NY, dropped six of ten field goals and eight of 15 free throws to entertain the crowd. He also finished with a team tying eight rebounds and two steals. Fellow senior-starters, Andy Gebru (Orlando, FL) and Malcolm Jay (Washington, DC) scored 14 and 11 points respectfully. Jason Thompson, who chipped in 12 points, and Eddie Brown, who had 11 and 8 rebounds, helped the bench score 32 points over the Lions’ 27.

The Broncos out-rebounded Lincoln (PA) 47-36 and had its largest lead of the game of 15 points with 2:36 remaining in the game. The Lions shot 38.3% (31 of 81) from the field and had 15 trips to the charity stripe. Lincoln (PA) made 11 of its 15 free throws. Known for jacking threes, the Lions made 5 of 32 attempts from behind the three-point arc. They converted three in the first half and two in the second.

Damian Hyman led Lincoln (PA) with 21 points while Darren Clark and Bryant Leach had 15 and 13 points respectfully.

Fayetteville State will look to sweep Virginia Union University on Tuesday, January 6 in Richmond, VA. The Broncos defeated the Panthers 75-74 in overtime in the first matchup.
