September 13, 2007

ORANGEBURG, SC – Four South Carolina State players have been suspended for Saturday’s historic contest at the University of South Carolina for violation of team rules, Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough announced Thursday evening.

Those players to serve the one-game suspension are placekicker Stephen Grantham (6-0, 185 So.) of Florence, wide receivers Terrance Smith (6-2, 190 R-So.) of Aiken and Phillip Morris (6-4, 185 R-Jr.) of Timmonsville, and defensive lineman Patrick Brooks (6-3, 235 R-Fr.) of Fayetteville, NC.

Grantham and Smith are both starters, while Morris and Brooks are top reserves for the Bulldogs, who will be meeting their intrastate rival for the first time. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Also slated to miss Saturday’s contest is defensive back Marshall McFadden, who suffered an injury to his right elbow in SC State’s 24-13 win at Bethune-Cookman last Saturday. McFadden, a 6-2, 195 junior of Lamar who had started all 24 Bulldog games during his career, will miss 2-3 weeks due to the injury.
