Virginia Union releases 2008 Football Schedule

RICHMOND, VA - The 2008 football schedule released by the VUU department of athletics is compromised of 10 regular-season contests, including 3 non-conference match-ups. In addition, this year's schedule will feature four opponents (East Stroudsburg, West Virginia Wesleyan, Fort Valley & Chowan) that the Panthers we be facing for the first time in the history of its football program.

The Panthers will open their season with three non-conference games. The first is against East Stroudsburg University, to be played on Thursday, August 28 in East Stroudsburg, PA for the season-opener. The first-ever meeting between these two programs is scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 PM. The following week, VUU will host the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College on September 6 at 6:00 PM. Virginia Union will wrap up its non-conference schedule when they travel to Fort Valley, GA to face-off against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University. Kick-off is scheduled for September 13 at 1:00 PM

Conference play begins in week 4 when the Panthers host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in the Western Virginia Education Classic. Kick-off is scheduled for September 20 at 2:00 PM at Salem Stadium in Salem, VA. VUU will travel to Murfreesboro, NC on September 27 to play Chowan University in a 6:00 PM contest.

VUU will be at home the first three weeks in October. On October 4, the Panthers will host Saint Paul's College in the 7th Annual Lucille M. Brown Community Youth Bowl. The contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM kick-off. The following week, the Panthers will play hosts to the Lions of Lincoln University (PA). The last meeting between these two programs took place in 1960 when VUU defeated LU 75-0. Homecoming pits the Panthers against conference rival Virginia State University on October 18 at 1:00 PM. The VUU vs. VSU contest will be broadcasted by the Urban Sports and Entertainment Group as part of the CIAA television schedule.

The Panthers will be on the road for their last two regular season contests. On October 25, VUU will travel to Bowie, MD to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State University in a 1:00 PM match-up. VUU will wrap-up its regular season schedule when they travel to Elizabeth City, NC to play the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. The Panthers look to avenge last season's loss, which was the only regular season loss for the Panthers.

The schedule is capped off with the 2008 CIAA Football Championship game which is scheduled for Saturday, November 8th. Last season, the Panthers fell to Shaw University in the conference championship game 31-24 in double-overtime. The site and time of this contest has not yet been determined.
