SCSU to play Two Division I Football Opponents for Second Straight Season

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State has announced its 2008 football schedule. The Bulldogs will play twelve (12) contests, including two Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Div. I-A) opponents for a second straight year, according to Athletics Director Charlene Johnson. Five of the games will be at home.

SC State, who played a major school in football for the first time last season – the school’s 100th year of football – will meet both intrastate rival Clemson and Central Florida for the first time. The Bulldogs will also renew the series with Benedict after a three-year hiatus for their third and final non-conference opponent.

During the 2007 football season, the Bulldogs played both Air Force and intrastate rival South Carolina, marking the school’s first-ever game against an FBS opponent.
SC State opens the 2008 campaign Aug. 30 at Central Florida and travels to Clemson Sept. 20, while Benedict will provide the opposition for the Bulldog home opener Sept. 6.

“Just as in 2007, we have a very challenging schedule this year,” said Johnson. “For a second consecutive season, the university will face two major universities, providing our players and supporters with some wonderful experiences, and bringing more visibility to our program.”

Other home games on the slate include Bethune-Cookman Sept. 13, Norfolk State -- the Homecoming contest -- Oct. 11, Hampton Oct. 25, and Howard Nov. 8.

Additional road games are Winston-Salem State Sept. 27, Florida A&M Oct. 18, Delaware State Nov. 1, Morgan State Nov. 15, and North Carolina A&T Nov. 22.
Starting times for all of the 2008 games will be released later.
